Looking for a simple Halloween craft that’s just spooky enough for little ones? This Preschool Mummy Craft is adorable, easy to make, and absolutely preschooler-approved! It’s the perfect mix of fun and focus — no tears, no frustration, just happy little artists creating their very own mummies.

Younger children love to show off their original artwork. But if the project is too difficult, you’ll find that they can quickly loose interest. That’s why this little mummy craft is the perfect project for your preschoolers. An adult will need to cut the mummy pattern out, but after that, it can be taken over by their creative little imaginations.
Unlike a traditional “wrapped” mummy, this version uses paper strips to create a reverse image effect that looks just as cute and mysterious. It’s a great fine-motor activity and an ideal project for Halloween parties, preschool classrooms, or a cozy afternoon at home.
Have These Supplies on Hand
- White cardstock paper
- Scissors
- Craft glue
- Scraps of black construction paper
- Scraps of other construction paper (green and yellow are fun)
- Google eyes
- Gingerbread Man/Person (Yep, this is the same PDF used for the Holiday Gingerbread Family Craft.)

How to Make the Preschool Mummy Craft
Print the Template
You’ll start out by printing the Gingerbread Man/Person on white cardstock paper. This will print one per page. Definitely use the cardstock paper, heavier paper helps the project hold up to glue and handling.
Cut the Mummy Shape
For younger children, it is best for an adult to cut the mummy out. Teachers, you decide what’s best for your preschoolers. One option is to cut out the mummy first then trim any excess black paper. Another option is to add the paper strips then cut out the mummy.
Add the Wrapping Strips
Pull out your box of scraps. Give each child black construction paper to cut into strips for the mummy. This becomes the mummy’s “wrapping.” Encourage kids to overlap and crisscross the strips however they like.
Add Some Color and Eyes
A small pop of color around the eyes — maybe green, yellow, or red — gives the mummies a spooky (and funny) personality. Glue on a pair of google eyes to finish the look.
Display Your Mini Mummies
Decorate a classroom with the mummies by stringing them together to make a banner. You can attach the mummies with a ribbon like the Holiday Gingerbread Family Craft. The example above has a section of silver Mardi Gras beads which is another way to string the mummies together for a banner.
This Preschool Mummy Craft is a sweet and simple way to celebrate Halloween while letting kids get creative. It’s spooky, silly, and absolutely adorable!
