A classic Irish favorite, this easy to make Irish Soda Bread is delicious year round.
Ingredients
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 ¼ cups buttermilk*
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • (*Add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to regular milk if buttermilk is not available.)
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 425.
  2. Mix melted butter and ¼ c of buttermilk. Set aside for later use.
  3. Sift dry ingredients in a medium bowl.
  4. Gradually add 1 cup of buttermilk while mixing.
  5. Roll the dough into a large firm ball.
  6. Place on a lightly floured baking sheet and mold into a circle about the size of a pie.
  7. Brush with butter and buttermilk mixture.
  8. Use a sharp knife to cut an “X” shape on the top of the dough.
  9. Bake for 45-55 minutes or until golden. Allow to cool before serving.
