God Is… Craft for Kids | Sunday School

by Theresa Johnston

Looking for a simple and meaningful Christian craft for kids? This “God Is…” Craft is a wonderful Bible activity for children that encourages them to think about who God is and what He means to them personally.

Many people answer the question “Who is God?” in different ways. The most common answer is God is love, but children often come up with thoughtful and heartfelt responses such as:

  • God is kind
  • God is strong
  • God is faithful
  • God is forgiving
  • God is my helper
  • God is peace
  • God is always with me
  • God is good

This interactive craft allows children to write their own answers on the rays of a bright yellow sun. As they rotate the sun, different “God Is…” statements are revealed, making this a fun and engaging way to reinforce biblical truths.

Why This Craft Is Great for Kids

This God Is Love craft for kids is perfect for:

  • Sunday School classes
  • Vacation Bible School (VBS)
  • Christian homeschool lessons
  • Children’s church
  • Family devotion time
  • Religious education programs

Because children create their own answers, every craft becomes unique. The activity also opens the door for meaningful conversations about God’s character and how He works in our lives.

How the Craft Works

The craft uses a paper plate as the background and a rotating sun in the center. Children write different attributes of God on the eight rays of the sun. When the sun is turned, the answers appear one at a time through the opening.

A 6-inch paper plate works especially well as the base. For an easy version, use a colorful paper plate. The example shown uses a white paper plate covered with shades of blue paper from a recycled magazine to represent the sky.

Supply List

  • Sun Template printout
  • Yellow printer paper
  • 6-inch paper plate
  • Paper brad
  • Old magazine or blue paper scraps

  • Scissors
  • Hole punch

Step-by-Step Instructions

Create the Sky Background: Cut blue pieces from an old magazine or colored paper. Glue the pieces onto the paper plate to create a sky effect. After the glue dries, trim any paper that extends beyond the edge of the plate.

Print the Sun Template: Print the template on yellow printer paper. The printout includes three shapes, but only the sun shape and the circle with the wedge cutout are needed for this activity.

Write “God Is…” Attributes: Ask children to fill in the eight sun rays with words that describe God. Encourage them to think about Bible stories, prayers, and things they have learned in church.

Punch the Holes: Punch a hole in the center of the paper plate, the sun, and the circle with the wedge opening. Be careful not to punch too close to the cutout section.

Reinforce the Circle: Place a paper hole reinforcer on the underside of the cutout circle to make it sturdier.

Assemble the Craft: Use a paper brad to attach the circle and sun to the paper plate. The sun should rotate easily so children can reveal each “God Is…” statement.

Teaching Ideas

As children complete the craft, discuss Bible verses that describe God:
