April Showers bring May Flowers. A cute poem for the month of April. This springtime activity can be done as one craft or as two separate crafts. You will find printable pages for the umbrella, raindrops, sun and flowers.
Supplies Needed
- Scissors
- Colorful printer paper
- 3 Coffee filters
- Washable markers or water color paints
- Spray bottle with water
- Craft glue
- Umbrella Template
- Raindrops Template
- Sun Template
- Flowers Template
Start out by printing out the provided templates. These pages can be printed on white printer paper, but you will save time by printing on different colors of paper. For the Umbrella, I used purple paper, but any color will work. The Raindrops look nice when printed on blue paper. For the Sun either yellow or orange paper works well. Just about any color of paper looks great for the Flowers.
Working with Coffee Filters
Cut one of the coffee filters in half. One half is to be used for the umbrella and the other half for the sun. Place the two halves along with the other two filters on newspaper or paper towels.
Decorate each half with the different colors of markers. Use warm colors like red, orange and yellow for the sun. Be creative with the colors used for the umbrella.
Decorate another coffee filter to be used for the flowers. The third filter will be for the raindrops. Once all the filters are colored in, spritz the filters with the water until the colors start to run together.
Spritz the filters with the water until the colors are running together. Set them aside and allow them to dry completely.
Putting It All Together
While the coffee filters are drying, work on cutting apart the umbrella, raindrops, sun and flowers. Most of the images can be easily cut apart if they are first folded in half. Follow the print-out directions for where to make the fold and what to cut out.
Use the craft glue to attach the cut-out images to the coffee filters. Once dry, trim away any excess coffee filter.
With the theme of April Showers Bring May Flowers, have fun decorating your classroom windows. The solid cutouts from the raindrops and flowers can also be used as part of the decoration.
