If your Thanksgiving table could use a little extra sparkle (or silliness!), this coffee filter turkey craft is the cutest, quickest way to add charm. Kids love making them, adults love admiring them, and honestly—they’re so cheerful they might end up stealing the spotlight from the stuffing.
This little turkey stands up on its own, thanks to a simple cone of brown construction paper paired with a brightly colored half–coffee filter. Add a beak, a gobbler, and a pair of googly eyes, and suddenly you’ve got a flock of feathery friends ready for the holiday.

What You’ll Need
- Turkey template
- White printer paper (if tracing onto construction paper)
- Brown construction paper — each sheet makes about two turkeys
- Scraps of yellow and red construction paper (beak + gobbler)
- White coffee filter (½ filter per turkey)
- Googly eyes
- Scissors
- Washable markers
- Scotch tape
- Craft glue
- Newspaper or scrap paper for coloring

How to Make a Coffee Filter Turkey
1. Prepare the Feathers
Start with a single coffee filter and fold it into eighths:
- Fold in half → in half again (quarters) → in half again (eighths).
This is actually a great mini-lesson in fractions for older kids!
Trim the loose ends so the folded filter forms a pointed diamond shape. See example #5.
Unfold, then cut the filter in half—one half makes perfect turkey feathers.
Place it on newspaper and color the entire surface with washable markers.
Spritz lightly with water so the colors blend into a tie-dye effect. Let it dry completely.
2. Make the Turkey Body
While the feathers dry, print and cut out the Turkey template.
Trace the template onto brown construction paper and cut it out.
(Or print directly onto brown paper and skip the tracing.)
Decorate the turkey’s face using:
- A yellow beak
- A red gobbler
- Googly eyes
Roll the semicircle of brown paper into a cone and tape the edges together so it stands upright.
3. Add the Feathers
Slip the dried, colored half coffee filter into the slits on each side of the turkey.
The filter should stand tall behind the body, just like a fan of festive feathers.
Holiday Decorations
Line these colorful little turkeys down the center of your Thanksgiving table, use them as place markers, or send them home as keepsakes. They’re cheerful, easy, and kid-approved—everything a holiday craft should be.
