Flower Coaster

Spring is in the air! This weeks craft is this oh so cute Flower Coaster. With a printable template to follow, this is a pretty easy to create craft for most ages. So many fun ways to gift or display these colorful foam coasters. How about a nice to gift for Mother’s Day or Grandma? Create a bunch for a Garden Party Birthday Party.

There are several ways in which these flowers can be put together. The green leaf background is optional. The following picture shows combinations of craft foam, felt, rubber shelf liner and even inexpensive dollar store rubber placemats. Gather up your supplies, use a combination of bright, fun colors.

Supplies Needed

  • Scissors
  • Glue or glue gun
  • Pencil or fine point marker, whichever works best for the material being used
  • Any combination of colors and materials of fun foam, felt, rubber shelf liner (can also use placemats from the $1 store for more color variations)
  • Flower Template

Putting the Flower Coaster Together

Start by printing out the Flower Template on regular printer paper. For a more durable template, use cardstock paper.

The template can be cut out in steps. First is the section with the leaves. Cut this out then trace the pattern onto the green craft foam. Second is the flower. Remove the leaves and trace this onto one of the materials you have on hand. Finally is the center section of the flower. Cut the circle out and trace onto an absorbent material for the center of the flower. I found that the felt worked best here. Using craft foam for the flower center may become slick from the glass condensation. Use this for decorative flower rather than a coaster.

Not Just for Coasters

These cute flowers are a great way to decorate for the season or other event. Hand out sheets of craft foam (dollar tree favorite) at a Garden Party Birthday Party and let the guests create the decorations. Come October, use a yellow and brown combination for Fall Sunflowers.
