A pretty Heart Suncatcher Craft decoration for kids to make this Valentine’s Day. Easy enough for most children to create and also a fun family project. This Valentine Heart Suncatcher is made from colorful tissue paper and uses a heart stencil in several different sizes.

While putting this together with your children, read about the Legend of St. Valentine and why we celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Instructions for the Heart Suncatchers Craft

  • Select the option for the Heart Stencil and print it out on white, red or pink printer paper. For this example, I used pink paper.
  • Cut out the different sizes of hearts. You can cut through the hearts to cut out the inside shapes since they will be glued back in place later on.
  • Cut a section of white tissue paper that is large enough for the four outlined hearts.
  • Trace the inside section of the four hearts on to the white tissue paper with a pencil. This will mark the area to add the tissue paper sections.
  • Cut up the different colors of tissue paper into small sections, approximately 1 – 2 inches.
  • Using the paintbrush, apply a light coat of the diluted glue to one of the pencil drawn hearts on the tissue paper.
Valentine Hearts Suncatcher Steps
  • Add the cut up pieces of tissue paper to the glue and white tissue paper. It is ok to have them overlap. Add additional glue if it looks like the pieces are not sticking.
  • Repeat for each of the other heart shapes on the white tissue.
  • Lay a cut section of yarn or ribbon to the top of each traced heart on the tissue paper. You can also tape the yarn or ribbon once the hearts are completed and completely cut out.
  • Allow a little time for the glue to dry.
  • Apply the glue stick to each of the cut out heart ‘frames’ and attach to the corresponding section of white tissue paper.
  • Repeat for each of the four heart ‘frames’.
  • Cut the white tissue paper along the outer edge of each heart ‘frame’ being careful not to cut the yarn or ribbon that was attached to hang the sun catcher.
