These elegant little hearts can be used for several different crafts including Heart of Gold bookmarks and Valentine decorations. This craft is not really recommended for younger children as it does take a little skill to attach the two pieces of packing tape together.
MATERIALS:
- Scissors
- 2″ wide clear packing tape
- Scotch tape
- Gold garland (Christmas garland) or gold glitter
- Permanent marker
- Printout for the Heart Stencil
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Find a work surface that won’t stick to the tape. I used a large plastic platter.
- Select the option for the heart stencil and print it out.
- Cut about a six inch section of packing tape and lay it sticky side up on your work surface. This will be enough for 3 gold hearts.
- Attach each end of the tape to the work surface with a piece of scotch tape. Make sure it is laying flat and tightly secured at both ends.
- Over the exposed sticky side of the tape start snipping the Christmas garland so that little of shreds of it will adhere to the tape.
- Once you have covered the packing tape with the snips of gold shredded garland, cut another 6″ section of packing tape.
- Carefully lay the second piece of tape on top of the first one, smoothing it in place.
- With the small heart stencil behind the tape, trace out the 3 hearts, then with the scissors, cut out the gold hearts.
- If any of the permanent marker remains on the tape, use a little bit of rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball to remove it.
- NOTE: I also tried this craft using contact paper. Contact paper is definitely easier to work with and different size hearts can be made, but the finished hearts were not as clear as those done with the packing tape.
These gold hearts make great bookmarks that kids can use as gifts for parents, teachers or special friends Heart of Gold Bookmark instructions.
