What in the world are Pasta Dogs? Surprise your kids with this recipe for silly combinations of hot dog slices and different shapes of pasta. By using different pasta sizes and shapes you can create unique ‘creatures.’ This is an easy recipe for older children that requires minimal supervision. This is a great way to encourage younger children to take an interest in cooking and trying new foods. As the pasta cooks it expands and changes shape.
Believe it or not, this combination of spaghetti and hot dogs actually tastes pretty good together. Even for adults
What You’ll Need to Make Pasta Dogs
- Hot dogs
- Spaghetti
- Ziti or other shapes of pasta
Easy Instructions
- Put a pot of water on the stove to boil. It should be large enough for the uncooked pasta – you don’t want to break it.
- Cut the uncooked hot dogs into ½”-1” slices. Use the center slices for the pasta dogs. Save the rounded ends for Squid creatures (see suggestions below).
- Break spaghetti in half so that it is around 4″ in length.
- Push uncooked pasta all the way through the center section of the hotdog slices so that an equal amount of pasta is on each side of the cut circle.
- Place the hotdog and pasta combination into the boiling water.
- Cook as pasta according to package directions.
- Drain the pasta dogs and serve hot with ketchup and mustard.
Additional Suggestions
- Squid Pasta-Dogs: Use the ends of the hotdogs, insert a 2″ section of uncooked spaghetti into the hotdog – but not all the way through.
- Octopus Pasta Dogs: Push 4 longer sections of spaghetti through the center of the hotdog and have equal amounts on each side.
- Cyclops Pasta Dogs: Use 1 ziti pasta for each section of the pasta-dog, pushing half way through.
