Let’s make a Wreath Gift Bag for the upcoming holidays! This is possibly one of the easiest and least expensive holiday crafts you will come across. The low cost and simplicity, make it perfect for a large group. Whether a Sunday school group, a scouting activity or classroom craft, you can turn the kids loose with minimal instruction.
I found that white lunch bags work the best for this craft. But if you can’t find them, the basic brown bags work also work well. Other than the paper lunch bags, all you need are scraps of green tissue paper for the wreath. This easy-to-create holiday gift bag is even simple enough for a pre-school craft.
The personalized holiday bag can be used for a gift the child has made, or they can take several home to wrap a present there.
Supplies needed for the Wreath Gift Bag
- Round frame template
- Paper lunch bag
- Green tissue paper
- Red ribbon
- Hole punch
- Craft glue
Start by using the round frame template to trace two of the circles onto the paper bag. If the size isn’t right for the bag you are using, it is easy enough to select a different size for your project. The top of the circle should be around 3 inches down from the top of the bag. This will allow for enough space to fold the open end down and have the ribbon at the top of the wreath.
Cut or tear the green tissue paper into small sections. This is a perfect time to use up those scraps of tissue paper that you have been saving. If you can find several different shades of green, that’s even better.
Lightly dab on dots of blue within the two circles. The little glue pens from the Dollar Tree work well for this. If you find the glue is too thick, consider diluting it with water and using a small paint brush to apply it with.
Pinch the pieces of tissue paper and then randomly attach it the glue, forming a wreath. If you want to add ‘berries’ to the wreath, a few sections of red tissue will work.
Fold the top of the bag and punch two holes, centered, above the wreath. This will go through all the layers of the bag.
Once the gift is inside, thread the red ribbon through the holes and tie a bow in the front, right above the wreath.
