Easter Egg SunCatchers

Colorful eggs for a stained glass suncatcher for Easter. Printable Easter egg template at ActivitiesForKids.com

This Easter, add a little color to you holiday decorations with this craft for easy Easter Egg SunCatchers.  It is easy to be creative with this craft – make a unique design or just add scraps of tissue paper.  All styles look pretty when hanging in the sunlight.  This is a very inexpensive craft that is easy enough for preschool aged children to do.

MATERIALS:
  • Scissors
  • Craft glue diluted (half water, half glue) in a small bowl
  • Glue stick
  • Yarn or string
  • Medium width paint brush
  • Pencil
  • Color or white printer paper
  • White tissue paper
  • Several different colors of tissue paper
  • Templates for the Egg Stencil
INSTRUCTIONS:
  • Select the options for the egg stencil and print it out on white or colored printer paper. In this example, I used pink printer paper.
  • Cut out the different sizes of eggs. You can cut through the oval frames so that it is easier to cut out the inside shapes.  These pieces will be glued back in place later on.
  • Cut a section of white tissue paper that is large enough for all four outlined hearts.
  • Trace the inside section of the four eggs on to the white tissue paper with a pencil. This will mark the area to add the colorful tissue paper.
  • Cut up or tear up strips of the different colors of tissue paper into small sections, approximately 1 – 2 inches.
  • Using the paintbrush, apply a light coat of the diluted glue to one of the ovals on the tissue paper.
  • Add the cut up pieces of tissue paper to the glue and white tissue paper. It is ok to have them overlap. Add additional glue if it looks like the pieces are not sticking.
  • Repeat for each of the other egg sizes on the white tissue.
  • Lay a cut section of yarn or ribbon to the top of each traced egg on the tissue paper. You can also tape the yarn or ribbon once the eggs are completed and completely cut out.
  • Allow a little time for the glue to dry.
  • Apply the glue stick to each of the cut out Easter Egg ‘frames’ and attach to the corresponding section of white tissue paper.
  • Repeat for each of the four Easter Egg ‘frames’.
  • Cut the white tissue paper along the outer edge of each Easter Egg ‘frame’ being careful not to cut the yarn or ribbon that was attached to hang the egg suncatcher.
