Hooray! Another use for that outdated stack of CD’s in your office. A fun and seasonal activity for toddlers and preschool children, CD Butterfly Craft. What no silver, CD disks in your crafting stash? No problem. A circle of tin foil glued to light-weight cardboard will do just as well. Find more Easy Butterfly Crafts for Kids.

For this CD Butterfly Craft, I used a standard computer CD and a printed butterfly. Use any color you wish for the butterfly and any sort of decorations, including sequins, crayons and markers. For this image, I used black construction paper paper for the butterflies and holograph paper for the hole-punched circles and butterfly body.

Materials Needed

Computer CD that is no longer needed

Black construction paper

Hologram paper in different colors

Scissors

Craft glue

Hole punch

Magnet (optional)

Printer paper

Butterfly template

How to Make a CD Butterfly

First, print out the Butterfly template on the printer paper and cut out. This can either be printed on white or a color of printer paper. For this example, I printed the butterfly out on white paper then traced the outline on black construction paper.

Next, punch out holes in the hologram paper saving the punched out circles to decorate the butterfly. Using drops of glue, attach the punched circles to the butterfly. Since I was using black paper for the butterfly, I also cut a section of the gold hologram paper for the butterfly body.

Once the glue dries, put a very light lay of glue on the center of the CD around the center circle. Be sure to do this on the shiny side of the CD. Then attach the paper butterfly to the center of the CD and let dry.

Add a magnet to the back of the CD with the craft glue for a completed CD Butterfly Craft.

Glitter glue

Scissors

Tape – to attach to a window

How to Make a Stained Glass Butterfly

First, print out the Butterfly template on white printer paper. Since two butterflies will print per page, you can cut the paper in half for two children to use, but do not cut the paper butterfly out.

Place the printed copy behind the translucent plastic divider sheet. Then with a black permanent marker, trace the outline of the butterfly onto the clear divider sheet.

Note: For one butterfly, I added the antenna, the other I did not. Encourage children to move the pattern to the corner of the plastic – rather than cutting it out of the center – so that the plastic sheets can be saved and used for other crafting projects

Carefully cut out the butterfly from the divider sheet. Younger children might need help tracing and cutting the butterfly out.

Decorate the butterfly using other colors of permanent markers and glitter glue. Then color in the butterfly body with the black marker.

Add a bit of rolled tape to the back of the butterfly and attach to a glass window, door or mirror as a lovely decoration.

Color in 16 of the paper hole reinforcers with the turquoise marker then place 2 on each of the feathers.

Use the blue marker to put a dot inside each of the turquoise circles.

Apply a small dab of gold glitter flue at the top of each of the turquoise circles as shown.

Once dry, spread out the 8 feathers into a half circle with one end of each strip overlapping in the center. Then staple the 8 pieces together.

April activities? This Spring Flowers Craft is the perfect way to celebrate a new season. A Spring time array of colorful flowers. This is also a fun craft for Mother’s Day. Mom will love this never-wilting bouquet!

<ins class="adsbygoogle"
style="display:block"
data-ad-client="ca-pub-1205630963811834"
data-ad-slot="1002651681"
data-ad-format="auto"></ins>

The printable template contains images for both the tulips and daisies shown above. These flowers can be folded and attached to a sheet of pleated, green construction paper. This spring flowers craft is designed for older elementary school children since younger children may have difficulty folding the flowers. Another option would be to use small silk flowers instead of the folded flowers.

Materials for the Spring Flowers Craft:

Printer paper – white or different colors for the flowers

Green construction

Scissors

Craft glue

Scotch tape

Pleated flowers pattern (terms & conditions for downloads)

Start by printing out the Pleated Flowers pattern PDF. Use either white or different colors of printer paper. Note: you can use white paper and children can color the flowers with crayons or markers.

Cut out the flowers. It might be easier for children to fold the flowers in half and then cut out. For a large group, print the flower pages on on several different colors of printer paper and allow the children to choose which flowers to use.

Fold the flower pattern in half, vertically so that the print is visible from the outside. Then make folds in the flowers so that there is a tab in the back. Using the flue stick, attach the flowers together where the folded sections meet.

<ins class="adsbygoogle"
style="display:block"
data-ad-client="ca-pub-1205630963811834"
data-ad-slot="1002651681"
data-ad-format="auto"></ins>

Folding the Green Paper

Now that you have your flowers ready to go, it’s time to fold the green paper. Starting with the shorter side of the green construction paper, fold pleats accordion style about 3/4 – 1″ apart. Continue until the entire paper has been folded.

Fold the pleated paper in half. With the paper folded, hold all the loose ends together and make a 1″ angled cut at the end. Take the center of the folded paper and tape the two loose pieces together to make a semi-circle of pleated paper.

Let’s Add the Flowers

Glue the tab on the back of the flowers to the folds in the green pleated paper. Attach circles to the centers of the daises. In this example I also attached a sequined butterfly.

This is a simple craft that can keep the kids occupied on a rainy day. Very inexpensive and the kids can be as creative as they like. The head of the snake can either start from the outer edge of the paper plate or end on the inside. Color with paints or markers – decorate with glitter or sequins. A good craft to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day as well as a Vacation Bible School unit study or Adam and Eve.

Materials Needed:

Paper in two colors (purple, green, or gold for an authentic Mardi Gras look)

Gold foil paper (a party bag from Dollar Tree works great!)

Scissors

Craft glue

Stapler

Ribbon

Jester Collar Pattern (PDF printable)

How to Make a DIY Jester Collar

1. Print and Cut the Collar Base
Print the Jester Collar pattern on white printer paper or one of the colored papers you’ve chosen.
Cut out the semi-circle shape, which will serve as the base of the collar.
If you want a full-circle collar, print and cut two semi-circles, then tape them together OR use a large piece of paper (like a brown paper bag) and trace the pattern on a folded edge for a full circle.

<ins class="adsbygoogle"
style="display:block"
data-ad-client="ca-pub-1205630963811834"
data-ad-slot="1002651681"
data-ad-format="auto"></ins>

2. Attach the Ribbon
Staple a piece of ribbon to each end of the collar base. This will be used to tie the collar around the neck.

3. Create the Jester Points
Trace and cut out three “pointed tabs” from each of the two colors of paper.
Cut one extra tab in half as shown in the pattern.
Glue the pointed tabs evenly around the semi-circle collar base, following the pattern markings.

4. Add Decorative Details
Cut seven small circles from the gold foil paper to represent bells at the end of each point.
Glue each gold circle to the tip of the jester points for a fun, festive touch.

Tip: If you’re using heavier-weight paper, you may want to use a diluted glue-and-water solution and apply it with a brush to help the pieces adhere smoothly.

Time to Celebrate!

Your Mardi Gras Jester Collar is now ready to wear! Whether you’re dressing up for a parade, party, or classroom activity, this easy craft is a great way to bring the fun and festivity of Mardi Gras to life.

Fun Ways to Use Your Jester Collar:

Pair it with a DIY jester hat for a complete look!

Use it for a school play or costume day.

Make matching collars for a group Mardi Gras celebration!

Turn it into a pet costume for a fun photo op!
