Snack Mix Recipe for Kids

A super easy Snack Mix Recipe for kids to make. I don’t think there was ever a time when I was out with my kids that a container of snacks wasn’t also along for the ride. This is a super easy recipe for children and can and it can be made with just about anything you have on hand.

Kids love the color and flavor combinations of a snack mix. For this example, I used:

  • Raisins: Healthy and sweet makes raisins a good starting ingredient.
  • Small crackers : Anything from goldfish to mini-ritz will do.
  • M&M’s : Perfect for the sweet savory combination.
  • Pretzels : Adding a little salt and crunch. This square shape was a fun find.
  • Chex cereal : I’ve found kids prefer the rice chex to other flavors.
  • Marshmallows : Because what child doesn’t love marshmallows!

Have 6 to 8 bowls of several different snacks available. Provide each child with a baggie or other storage container. Children can learn about measuring as they select 1/4 to 1/3 cup servings of their favorite snacks to mix together. Let each child decide how many different shacks they want to mix together.

The outcome should total 1 to 1 1/2 cups of snacks. This is an excellent opportunity to teach kids about fractions as well as measuring for recipes. As children add their ingredients, have them write down what the added as well as the measurement. This way they can create their own Snack Mix Recipe. An additional activity would be for them to create their own Printable Recipe Cards of their recipe.
