  Invitations

  Food - Drinks & Desserts

It is against the law for frogs to croak after 11:00 pm in Memphis, TN. This law is still on the books.

  Decorations

  • For place markers at the table - use the flower top pattern with bright colors of fun foam.  Use over a newly opened .5 liter plastic drink, or, fill a cleaned out .5 liter plastic bottle with water and 1-2 drops of green food coloring.  Place the flower top over the open neck of the bottle, then tightly screw on the bottle lid.  Glue small plastic bugs onto the flowers.
  • Scatter gummy worms and bugs all over the table.
  • Pattern from Jo-Ann Fabrics for a bug mobile.

  Activities

  • Movies - A Bug's Life or Antz.
  • Flower Toss - Using the flower and bug decorations from above filled with water, and the lids replaced.  Use large plastic food container lids with the center cut out to throw over the flowers.  Who ever can circle the most flowers is the winner.
  • Print out A Bugs Life board game, from Disney.
  • Read The Very Hungary Caterpillar
  • Make a Dragonfly balloon sculpture for each guest.
  • Nature Scavenger Hunt - provide each child with a print out page, a baggie and a pencil.
  • Bug catch relay - Take 2 large plastic cups, punch a hole at the top of each.  Tie a plastic bug at the end of a 15" of string.  Tie the other end of the string to the plastic cup.  Line the children up into two rows.  Each child takes a turn holding the cup and flipping the bug up until it lands in the cup, then they empty the cup and hand it to the next player in the line.  The line that finishes first is the winning team.  For a greater challenge, add an additional bug to the cup on 18" of string.
  • Nature Walk (party walk) - In the driveway, draw a large circle, along the border of the circle, draw 15-20 circles (about 2 ft in diameter). In each of the circles write the name of a bug or insect. Write each of these bug names on a slip of paper and place them in a bag. Have each child stand on a 'bug' and start the music. When the music stops, draw a bug name from the bag, whoever is standing on that bug, gets to select a small prize or candy, then rejoins the game. This is a great game to play at the end of the party while you are waiting for parents to pick up their children. Everyone participates, no one sits out, and everyone has an equal chance of winning each time.
  • Bug Drop - Give each child 5-10 small plastic bugs, have them take turns standing in front of a cleaned out gallon plastic milk jug.  Who ever can drop the most bugs into the milk jug is the winner.
  • Pin the bee on the flower.  Using a large brown grocery bag or poster board, draw a large flower (a daisy shape is easy to do).  Print out and cut apart the bees (12 will print per page).  Attach tape to the back of each bee, so that there is a sticky side out.  Blindfold each child when it is their turn. Who ever can place their bee closest to the center of the flower wins.
  • Mini Insects Pony Bead Patterns from Making Friends.
  • Make a Bug Catcher - Then catch some bugs.
  • Find the Ants - print several sheets of ants, cut apart and hide.  Works best in a small area, or inside.  Use tape to stick the ants everywhere! on a tree, on the wall ...  See who can find the most.

  Goodie Bags

  • Small clay or plastic pots filled with treats such as packs of gummy worms, sunflower seeds,
  • gummy worms - magnifying glass (they will also take home their bug catchers)
